"Winter is the coldest season of the year. The season includes the time of year with the shortest days and longest nights." A quote from Wikipedia.
You know how winter wanders in ... a few chilly winds, some rain. Then the temps gets out of wack. What is 7º doing here? This is the Southern Oregon banana belt. Sheesh.... Then it warms to the teens and twenties. All of that frigid stuff pretty much took care of any plant life. Ah well, spring will come again!
I love the snugginess (is that a word?) of the wood stove blaring out heat and keeping us warm and toasty. In the summer I'll dream of and wish for cold days and nights and the stove burning up those logs.
I also miss the critters that leave for warmer accomodations during this season ... the hummingbirds and finches, especially. The deer also tend not to wander close. The male (Toms and Jakes) turkeys however, show up on a regular basis. Noisy guys. Fanning themselves in front of each other, prancing and practicing their showmanship for the hens in the spring. Or, are they gay? Hmmmmm ... whatever they are, they are funny and make me laugh!
“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily.
“So it is.”
“And freezing.”
“Is it?”
“Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”
(Yikes, where has he been?)
The seasons all remind me of things, winter reminds me of quiet. Shhhhhh....... Let's cook something that will warm us up, lets read a book snuggled on the couch with the cat, let's make hot chocolate and watch a movie ... Spring is always memorable because of the jump at you beauty. Summer is so busy with activities and places to go. Fall air just makes you feel good and alive. Then winter. I always look forward to it, only because growing up and living in Southern California we didn't have 4 seasons. Wait, we did ... Fire, Flood, Riot, and Hollywood's Award Season! (Gag, don't they ever quit patting themselves on the back!) I'm not whining, mind you, I do love each day and it's presentation. As with the constant heat of summer, the fog this winter was deflating. But, then again, each day brings a new promise. Today it's windy. Watching the leaves swirl and blow ... the wind chime is in full concert ... cat and dog are close by. I'll live! :O)
Until the next musings.... Enjoy life. I mean, REALLY enjoy life. It's awfully short! Inhale deeply. Eat good food. Drink good wine. Hug your family and friends. Be thankful. Ciao....
Dew, I love you and miss you every day! Semper Fi. Yukon you are in my heart and walking with me still.
God Bless all of our servicemen and women, wherever they might be. You are being thought of and prayed for.
